Kansas City Chapter of UNICO National UNICO National was founded in 1931 by American businessmen of Italian Ancestry as a way of giving back to communities across America. The Kansas City Chapter of UNICO National was chartered in 1949 and since then has raised thousands of dollars annually to assist worth charities, organizations, families, and individuals. Dr. D.M. Nigro was The Kansas City Chapter of UNICO National donates thousands of dollars each year offering scholarship assistance to help promising high school students continue their education and realize their civic potential. Qualifications for UNICO scholarships are based upon the uncompromising principals of citizenship, honesty and integrity. The UNICO motto is "Service Above Self." The entire chapter membership is committed to giving a hand up, helping people in need.The Kansas City Chapter of UNICO National is not-for profit under 501(c)(3). Every dollar generated by UNICO events supports its charitable endeavors. For over 50 years the Kansas City Chapter of UNICO National recognized significant achievements of local citizens and community leaders at its annual "I Am An American" award banquet. Past honorees include: Mayor H. Roe Bartel (1953), Henry J. Massman (1955), Senator Stuart Symington (1958), J. Dillingham (1960), Ewing Kauffman (1970), Dr. George A. Russell (1986), Bill Grigsby (1987), William H. Dunn (1990), and Tony Severino (2002). These are but a few of the prestigious recipients over past five decades. All proceeds from "Festa Italiana 2007 at Zona Rosa" will provide funding for UNICO scholarships.
